What is Google Summer of Code?
Google Summer of Code (GSoC) is a global program by Google that pays students to contribute to open-source projects over the summer. In 2026, stipends range from $1,500 to $6,600 depending on your country's purchasing power parity.

How to Find the Right Organization
Visit summerofcode.withgoogle.com and browse the accepted organizations list. Filter by:
- Technology stack (Python, JavaScript, Rust, etc.)
- Project type (ML, web, mobile, data)
- Number of slots (larger orgs = higher chance)
Writing a Winning Proposal
- Make at least 2–3 contributions to the org's repository before applying
- Introduce yourself to mentors on mailing lists/IRC/Discord
- Structure proposal: Problem, Solution, Timeline, Milestones, About You
- Include specific deliverables for each week
- Get your proposal reviewed by community members
