What Are GitHub Octernships?
GitHub Octernships are remote internship opportunities for student developers in partnership with leading open-source companies. Unlike traditional internships, Octernships are fully remote, paid in USD, and open to students globally — including India, Nigeria, Brazil, and Indonesia.
Eligibility Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a college/university degree program
- 18+ years of age
- Valid GitHub account with contribution history
- Fluent in English (written communication)
- Available for the full internship duration (typically 3–6 months)
Application Process
- Visit education.github.com/students/octernships
- Browse active partner company listings
- Select roles matching your skills
- Submit your GitHub profile and portfolio
- Complete the technical assignment (usually a coding task)
- Attend an interview with the partner company
How to Stand Out
- Maintain an active GitHub contribution graph (green squares)
- Pin 3–5 of your best projects on your GitHub profile
- Write a compelling README for each project
- Contribute to the partner company's open-source repo before applying
- Include a cover letter explaining your specific interest
